Frans Lotz is interested in the relationship between people and manufactured objects in their environment. To achieve striking authenticity in his tiny versions of ubiquitous objects, Lotz labours over a coal-fired forge, turns wood on a lathe, and collaborates with graffiti and textile artists. Rendering gritty objects like dumpsters, tools, and fire escapes in a hyper realistic style, he uses rust stains, scratches, and other subtle details to evoke a narrative. His miniature works have been shown at the Art Gallery of Regina and Slate Fine Art Gallery. He has participated in the Emma International Collaboration and his work has been featured in Galleries West. Lotz, who was born in South Africa, is a sculptor currently based on Treaty 4 Territory in Regina, Saskatchewan. He earned a BFA in sculpture from the University of Regina in 2015 and worked as a studio assistant and printer for the late Joe Fafard.
