Neural Ground's policy regarding artist fees is consistent with the standards outlined by CAR/FAC and the CAR/FAC Copyright Collective. In determining the level of artist fees for solo and group exhibitions, we consult the guidelines issued and updated by CAR/FAC on a regular basis and have maintained this standard for several years. The standard artist fee for a solo exhibition presented by a visiting artist in a non-touring exhibition currently receives payment of $1,250.00 for a solo exhibition. This fee is payable the day the exhibition opens.
In conjunction with input from the IFVA and CAR/FAC, we are researching and analyzing appropriate artist fees for Web creation and dissemination of electronic works produced through the Soil Digital Media Suite.
Neutral Ground requests 20% commission for works sold in the gallery in conjunction with an exhibition. Works donated by artists for auction are entitled to a percentage of the sale value of the work and no artworks should be sold without some compensation to the artist. Likewise, when Neutral Ground organizes or brokers commissions or sales of artists' works for profit, the first priority is to establish the artists' fee payable.
