Neutral Ground Critical Reading Group

Introducing: Neutral Ground Critical Reading Group! Meeting every second Tuesday. Our next meeting is August 21st from 6 - 8pm.

You are invited to join the Neutral Ground Critical Reading Group, where we will discuss a piece of contemporary critical theory once every two weeks.

We will be looking at challenging critical texts in a supportive and communal environment. Reading critical theory is really hard, and there is no way to sugar coat it - but, it’s rewarding. The goal of the NGCRG is to bring the reading of these texts into a space where we can help each other through them, and offer one another different perspectives on the ideas we encounter.

For our second meeting, we will be reading an essay from Wayne Koestenbaum's book, Humiliation, titled "Strip Search", in which the author discusses humiliation, and that feeling's relationship to the psychological, social, and bodily experience. Please be aware that this essay contains frank descriptions of sexual assault, violence, and public shaming.

Please read the text (available here: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1FqA-8MNj5q0B2Am2OiToohaK3NTuIrcn) a couple of times and come ready to discuss it. Also bring ideas for our next reading.

See you Tuesday!
