Working from the spaces of interruption and revision, Liza Eurich and Kevin Rodgers present a new series of texts, images and objects. Their works often speak two languages simultaneously: the hermetic and direct. Continuing with gestures of reduction, repetition and juxtaposition, Eurich’s recent work considers the relationship between drawing and sculpture through experimentations with materiality and surface. Rodgers takes up the acts of seeing and touching, of making and positioning. Drawing upon political philosophy, Rodgers' provisional formalism is concerned with our relations to objects and images: between content and discontent.
During the week leading up to the exhibition Eurich and Rodgers will participate in a short production residency at the University of Regina, using this time to make additional work in response to each other and the particular space of the gallery.
Rodgers and Eurich will be leading an informal seminar at Contrary Projects to discuss concepts related to their exhibition.
In conjunction with the exhibition an artist multiple created by Kevin Rodgers and Liza Eurich will be distributed for free across the city as well as within the gallery.
Liza Eurich lives and works in London, Ontario. She received her BFA from Emily Carr University in 2010 and her MFA from Western University in 2012. She has interned for the contemporary art magazine Fillip and recently completed a residency with Silke Otto-Knapp and Jan Verwoert at the Banff Centre. Her work has been exhibited at MKG127 in Toronto, the McIntosh Gallery in London and Plug-In ICA in Winnipeg.
Kevin Rodgers is a visual artist and writer. In 2012, Rodgers received his PhD in Art and Visual Culture from Western University—one of the few programs of its kind in Canada. He is also a 2008 graduate of the master of fine arts program at the University of Guelph. Rodgers has shown in several group exhibitions across Canada, the United States and Belgium. His solo exhibitions include goodwater gallery, Toronto; and Galerie Tatjana Pieters, Ghent, Belgium. He has also written for numerous magazines, including FUSE, C Magazine, Border Crossings and ART PAPERS. He was recently awarded a three-month residency at FLACC in Genk, Belgium.
