Victoria/Berlin based sound installation artist and experimental music composer Jamie Drouin examines the unique palette of electrical-based noise pollution and the auditory phenomena of environments. Through improvised performances, Drouin attempts to position these concepts within new music frameworks, often working in collaboration with acoustic musicians to magnify the alien nature of his chosen palette. Using a small suitcase modular synthesizer and radio, Drouin creates intricately detailed patterns and textures that seek to expand and transform audience perceptions of common audible and inaudible noises such as power transformers, cellular networks, and electromagnetic waves. Drouin's works have been presented at venues and festival worldwide and recent collaborations include Lucio Capece, Johnny Chang, Crys Cole, Olaf Hochherz, Seiji Morimoto, Lance Austin Olsen, Mathieu Ruhlmann, and Sabine Vogel.
Saskatchewan-based sound artist Jeffrey Allport explores the mediums of composition, performance, installation and recording. In his performances, Allport approaches the physical nature of his chosen instrument through a variety of preparations and implements to liberate a unique palette of sounds. Respecting each carefully extracted tone, thump and scrape in addition to the silence from which they are borne, his exploratory improvisations inhabit minute sound worlds, eschewing the grand gesture. Frequently participating in once-only groupings has led him to performing and recording with a wide variety of improvisers from around the world including Annette Krebs, Nate Wooley, Gust Burns, Andrea Neumann, and Keith Rowe.
